I'm a Life Coach, a Marriage Counselor, a Relationship & Spiritual Coach, a Licensed Psychotherapist, an Attorney (inactive), a Published Writer and a Motivational Speaker. I was recently interviewed on LIFETIME TV'S morning show, "The Balancing Act" (see my Home Page for video feed), I’ve appeared on Radio Talk Shows, am the author of many articles and an interactive relationship advice blog located at http://relationshipscoach.wordpress.com, and was the featured writer of a holistic magazine relationship column. My writings, public speaking, and practice are informed by the principles of A Course In Miracles, The so-called "Secret" Law of Attraction, and other teachings including the work of Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, and Marianne Williamson. I also utilize principles based upon the work of John Bradshaw and Dr. Scott Peck.
I have over 18 years of experience helping people struggling with marital challenges, sexuality, parenting, difficult teenagers, families, including blended families and in-laws, sexual addiction, as well as those seeking job, career and organizational coaching. In addition, I have years of experience helping individuals suffering from mental health and addiction issues.
I provide solution-focused, Life Coaching, Marriage Counseling, Relationship Coaching,
Job/Career and Organizational Coaching, and Spiritual Coaching and Guidance. I guide, share, teach, and facilitate change and healing utilizing your own strengths and based upon both western and eastern schools of thought, as well as from lessons derived from my own life's experiences and challenges. I believe that we are all students and teachers, and that we are all children of God, Spirit, or your Higher Power. I work with everyone, including those with no spiritual or religious orientation, identifying and utilizing their belief systems to effect change. My approach is compassionate, direct, practical, and "hands-on". I often assign "homework" so that my clients are actively working between their sessions. I'm there to hold my clients accountable for their work, to help monitor their progress, and to help them work through challenges as they may arise along the way. I see myself as holding the torch or lantern to light the way for your growth and the attainment of your relationship and life goals.
Practicing law as a New York trial lawyer and litigator for ten years in New York was a spiritual springboard for me from an ego-based paradigm of doing battle, judgment, and a scarcity mentality, to an orientation based on forgiveness and compassion as the road to inner peace and abundance in all areas of our lives. I have had excellent results in my work, as is evidenced by testimonials (see the Testimonials page) and by scores of satisfied clients. I left my career as a New York trial lawyer and returned to my roots in psychology and personal growth as a Relationship and Life Coach because my integrity was so frequently challenged in an area of law that proved to be quite unscrupulous; because I wanted to help people with very real problems on the most practical level; and because I found a way to do so that is quite profound and inconsistent with, in my view, the largely ineffectual, traditional, psychoanalytically-based model.
As noted above, I was the featured author of an interactive relationship advice column in Creating Community, a holistic magazine reaching over 70,000 readers in Central New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania. I facilitate a weekly separation and divorce support group, led a psycho-educational support group, facilitated A Course In Miracles study group, and have given talks and workshops and taught on topics involving spirituality, psychology, improving couples' relationships, stress reduction utilizing progressive relaxation and guided imagery, meditation, and Emotional Freedom Technique, a type of energy psychology. I was interviewed for two internet television segments on “Dealing with Angry Teens” and “An Introduction to A Course In Miracles”.
As a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP), I've run workshops and seminars in corporations, have been a Consultant to Senior Management of Fortune 500 Corporations, and have led Supervisory Trainings and Workshops. In addition, I've facilitated Critical Incident Stress Debriefings for victims of traumatic events ranging from bank robberies to the tragedy of September 11th, 2001.
I worked for two of the largest behavioral health care companies in the world – Magellan Behavioral Health and United Behavioral Health – in the capacities of EAP Specialist, Provider Relations Coordinator, and Intake Counselor. I was a Milieu Therapist on an acute-care inpatient psychiatric unit at Framingham Union Hospital where I worked as part of an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses; was trained and served as a crisis counselor at the Worcester Crisis Center; interned as a therapist in the Hunter College Employee Assistance Program for university staff; and interned as a Therapist for foster children and their biological and foster parents in a family service agency in the Bronx, NY.
I hold an MSW from Hunter College, a JD from Brooklyn Law School, and a BA in Psychology from Clark University, which was awarded cum laude. I am a CSW in Pennsylvania, an LMSW (inactive) in New York, and a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP). I hold a Level II Certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is often referred to as the state-of-the-art treatment for trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); am a Level I Reiki Practitioner, a Level I Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) Practitioner, and a Level I Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Practitioner.
I completed an externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, which is considered by many to be the most successful approach to couples counseling in the world today. EFT is one of the best documented, most substantive, and well-researched approaches to couples therapy; it stands as one of the best validated couples interventions in North America. EFT has achieved an astounding 75 percent success rate, with 86 percent of couples reporting feeling happier in their relationships. This is in stark comparison to other forms of couples therapy which have been shown in studies to be only about 35 percent effective in healing relationships.
