I'm a marriage counselor, a relationship coach, a life coach, a spiritual coach, a dating coach, a career development and executive coach, an ADD/ADHD coach, a licensed psychotherapist, a published writer and speaker, and a retired NY attorney. I have over 15 years of experience helping couples and individuals improve their relationships. I've worked extensively with marital challenges, sexuality, parenting, difficult teenagers, ADD/ADHD, families -- including blended families and in-law issues, addictions including sexual addiction, as well as those with job, career and organizational issues. I have a unique and proactive, "outside the box" approach to helping people find or create jobs and careers in this challenging economy, which has been very successful. My approach is largely non-traditional, and combines alternative and holistic techniques for creating meaningful change and lasting results. In addition, I provide academic and vocational counseling for those seeking career direction.
I provide unique, solution-focused marriage counseling, relationship coaching, life coaching, dating coaching, job, career, business and organizational coaching, executive coaching, spiritual coaching and guidance, and psychotherapy.
I had an internet radio show (blogtalkradio.com/coachtherapist-david-s-wilde) and have been interviewed on Lifetime Television's morning Show, "The Balancing Act" as well as on numerous radio shows. I've also been a guest on numerous radio shows.
I guide, share, teach, and facilitate change and healing utilizing your own strengths and based upon both western and eastern schools of thought, as well as from lessons derived from my own life's experiences and challenges. My writings, public speaking, and practice are informed by the principles of A Course In Miracles, The "Secret" Law of Attraction, the effectiveness-based business and time-management principles of Steven R. Covey, and other eastern teachings including the work of Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, and Marianne Williamson. I also utilize principles based upon the work of John Bradshaw and Dr. Scott Peck.
My marriage counseling and relationship coaching work is informed by principles of "Emotionally Focused Therapy", "Imago Therapy", and utilizes an integrative, holistic approach which incorporates mind, body, and spirit. Depending on the circumstances, I may teach healthy communication skills including "active listening", facilitate guided meditation or teach meditation or "Emotional Freedom Technique" ("EFT") for help dealing with overwhelming feelings, utilize "Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing" ("EMDR") or incorporate hypnotherapy into the sessions. Whether you're seeing me for individual or relationship work, in most sessions I'll almost always assign "homework" that we agree upon for each client, so that you're actively working between your sessions, and gently hold you accountable in the next session, so that you're always moving forward towards your goals.
I completed an externship in "Emotionally Focused Therapy" developed by Dr. Sue Johnson, which is considered by many to be the most successful approach to couples counseling in the world today. EFT is one of the best documented, most substantive, and well-researched approaches to couples therapy; it stands as one of the best validated couples interventions in North America. EFT has achieved an astounding 75 percent success rate, with 86 percent of couples reporting feeling happier in their relationships. This is in stark comparison to other forms of couples therapy which have been shown in studies to be only about 35 percent effective in healing relationships.
My approach is compassionate, direct, practical, and "hands-on". I'm there to hold my clients accountable for their work, to help monitor their progress, and to help them work through challenges as they may arise along the way. I see myself as holding the torch or lantern to light the way for your growth and the attainment of your relationship and life goals.
Practicing law as a New York trial lawyer and litigator for ten years in New York was a spiritual springboard for me from an ego-based paradigm of doing battle, judgment, and a scarcity mentality, to an orientation based on compassion and forgiveness as the road to inner peace and abundance in all areas of our lives. I have had excellent results in my work as is evidenced by my testimonials (click here to read testimonials) and by scores of satisfied clients.
I left my career as a New York trial lawyer and returned to my roots in psychology and personal growth as a relationship and life coach because my integrity was frequently challenged in an area of law that proved to be quite unscrupulous; because I wanted to help people with very real problems on the most practical level; and because I found a way to do so that is quite profound, effective, and, in my view, inconsistent with the largely ineffectual, traditional, psychoanalytically-based model.
I facilitated a weekly separation and divorce support group, facilitated A Course In Miracles study group, and have given talks and workshops and taught on topics involving spirituality, psychology, improving couples relationships, stress reduction utilizing progressive relaxation and guided imagery, meditation, and Emotional Freedom Technique, a type of energy psychology.
As a Certified Employee Assistance Professional ("CEAP"), I've run workshops and seminars in corporations, have been a consultant to senior management of Fortune 500 corporations, and have led supervisory trainings and workshops. In addition, I've facilitated Critical Incident Stress Debriefings for victims of traumatic events ranging from bank robberies to the tragedy of September 11th, 2001.
As a professional Career Coach I have worked extensively with individuals on identifying their ideal career path and creating a strategy to make it happen. This has involved targeting the job market including “creating jobs”, resume and C.V. preparation, preparation for interviews including role-plays, and follow-up strategy sessions.
I have effectively counseled and coached employees ranging from corporate executives including officers and managers to entry-level employees on issues ranging from resolving interpersonal conflicts and dispute resolution with supervisors, coworkers, Human Resources, and with clients and vendors, to assistance in excelling progressing, and rising through the ranks within their respective organizations. Using my skills as a psychotherapist and coach, I have helped employees overcome workplace interpersonal and organizational stressors so they could focus and concentrate on getting ahead. Indeed, I have extensive experience providing executive coaching to all levels of personnel including officers, managers, supervisors and staff of companies including Johnson and Johnson, Keystone Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Pennsylvania, Merck, Novartis, Verizon, HSBC, and others in the insurance, pharmaceutical, "hi-tech", banking, finance, and other industries.
As an Organizational and Executive Consultant and Coach, I have provided management consultations as well as trainings and workshops with senior and middle management and with line staff of Fortune 500 and smaller corporations, for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, and small businesses on organizational, human resources, and interpersonal issues including the following:
- Industrial and organizational psychological and political challenges
- Resolution of interpersonal conflicts and disputes
- Supervisory and management concerns including identification of, and response to delicate concerns including suspected impaired or emotionally troubled employees involving possible substance abuse and including high-level officers and managers, perceived risks or threats of physical harm in the workplace, purported violations of HR rules or guidelines, project management political challenges and disputes as well as conflicts between competing vertical lines of authority
- Crisis response to workplace disasters including the provision of Critical Incident Stress Debriefings (CISD’s)
- Training sessions and workshops for management, officers, and staff on topics including team building, conflict and dispute resolution, effective communication skills, stress reduction (including progressive relaxation, guided, imagery, and meditation techniques, techniques for effective and efficient organizational and project management, and facilitated new employee orientations. stress reduction and legal, HR, and EEOC compliance issues
- Executive career challenges involving subtle political and organizational and effective workflow and time management and design to ensure the highest results
I worked for two of the largest behavioral health care companies in the world – Magellan Behavioral Health and United Behavioral Health – in the capacities of EAP specialist, provider relations coordinator, and intake counselor. I was a milieu therapist on an acute-care inpatient psychiatric unit at Framingham Union Hospital where I worked as part of an interdisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and psychiatric nurses; was trained and served as a crisis counselor at the Worcester Crisis Center; and interned as a therapist in the Hunter College Employee Assistance Program for university staff.
I hold an MSW from Hunter College, a JD from Brooklyn Law School, and a BA in Psychology from Clark University, which was awarded cum laude. I hold an LCSW in New York, a CSW in Pennsylvania, an LSW in New Jersey, and am a Certified Employee Assistance Professional (CEAP). I hold a Level II certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing ("EMDR") which is often referred to as the state-of-the-art treatment for trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
